Is someone trying
to tell me something?

Incident 1: Monday, the phone rang but when I picked it up no one was there so I assumed it was a wrong number or soliciting. A few minutes later it rang again from the same number. Again no one was there. I called the number (212 - Manhattan area code) and a client from 15 years ago picked up. She said she had been thinking of me and wanting to make an appointment but hadn't dialed my number that day. Laughing, she went on to say my predictions were correct and so we made a new appointment.

Incident 2: Last night my grandson Michael called me from Boston College where he is a freshman. He said his phone showed that I had tried to reach him, but I never called as I didn't want to disturb him at school. My call log does not show me calling him, but his does.

Incident 3: This morning I received this email ...

Thursday Politics

Did you watch Designated Survivor last night? Watching Kiefer Sutherland, who suddenly became the president as the country is falling apart, makes you wonder how Hillary or Trump would react in the same situation. It's at times like this that you want the person who is most professional to step up and take charge, which in this case would be Hillary. Though she represents the establishment and everything we don't like and respect, she still is better than Trump at leading the country in times of crisis as real time events are getting worse. Trump has neither the temperament, experience, ability, nor connections. Taking Trump out of the equation would leave us with Mike Pence another seriously bad choice. With either Trump or Hillary winning, we have to look at VP options and they are not pretty.

Shimon Peres

August 2, 1923 - September 28, 2016

Days before the start of the Jewish High Holy Days (begins Sunday with Rosh Hashanah) Shimon Peres, the former Israeli prime minister and president passed. One of the last surviving pillars of Israel's founding generation, Mr. Peres was known for leading the creation of its defense industry and for his role in the 1993 Oslo Accords, which allowed the Palestine Liberation Organization to govern in Gaza and part of the West Bank. In 1994 he won the Nobel Peace Prize together with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat.

Shimon Peres was a Polish-born Israeli statesman.

He was the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014.

One down and two to go ...

Debate #1 is over. Every word and nuance was dissected by social media, economists, minimum wage earners, union leaders, body language experts, others whose opinions count, and of course the voters.

"Who" was Hillary wearing? I'm not sure who but her choice of red was a great idea perhaps a message that she was trying to cross party lines. Red symbolizes war, power, determination. Last night, it made Hillary look more vibrant along with great make-up and hair. I loved the flat shoes as a statement to woman who feel obligated to wear uncomfortable high heels.

Trump wore a blue suit with a white shirt and blue tie. These colors combined with Hillary's red pants suit set the stage for red, white, and blue. Was that planned? As to Melania, she wore her usual solemn expression that I can't connect to. I also didn't like her black dress with the zipper back though others may like the look. In contrast Ivanka's pink dress did not disappoint for me.

Enough about appearance although that and body language say a lot ... let's get to the debate itself. Did you learn anything? Did either candidate explain policy? The debate was more about entertainment than information with Debate Watch Parties going on around the city ... and everyone picking a team.

The debate went as expected with Trump still showing his inexperience and lack of preparation - his comments mostly filled with bumbling blather. And what was all his sniffling about? Did he have a cold? It was really annoying.

By the time it was over, it looked like the beginning of Trump's downfall as Hillary put him the defensive time and time again - Temperament at the heart of the debate. It clearly was a win for her. Has she officially become the lesser of two evils? Was he only in the race to get her elected? Have back-door deals and policy finally brought Hillary Clinton to the White House? Wasn't that the plan in 2008?

In the Age of Technology, there was overwhelming reaction from social media - tweeting and fact checking throughout the debate. This was the most tweeted debate in history ... so far. It was the candidates vs. the public trying to find flaws in their rhetoric as if a reality show or game.

Bravo to Lester Holt who did a great job as moderator.

With two debates remaining, we still look at our choice of candidates realizing that it must all be orchestrated and try as we may to take the establishment down - that may never happen. Clearly something is going on behind the scenes - a battle for power that we know exists and can do nothing about as those who run the world fight for their survival at our expense. This is the way it is today and has been since the beginning of time - yet things see to be spiraling out of control for them.

To sum up Debate #1 - It was all staged with nothing unexpected happening. So glad this campaign season is almost over. We've learned a lot about the way things work, but also that everything is collapsing and no one can fix the issues. Reality will play out as is programmed.

Buying a new cell phone

Every two years, I update my cell phone and plan. On December 1, 2014 I changed from Sprint to Verizon and from a regular Galaxy phone to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which I will own on December 1. I had planned to updated to the Note 7 when the battery issues erupted so I am waiting.

Yesterday, I called Verizon. If I don't update my phone on December, my plan will go down to $80 a month. After Samsung fixes the batteries on the Note 7 - I have to wait for a good promotion to get the best deal from Verizon. All of that works for me as love my phone, but this must be a serious inconvenience for other consumers. Would I change to an iPhone 7? I'm so used to my Samsung, it is doubtful though I am not overly attached to the product.

Samsung says only 60 percent of Galaxy Note 7 phones have been replaced in US and Korea   The Verge - September 27, 2016
More than 60 percent of defective Galaxy Note 7 smartphones sold in the United States and South Korea have now been returned and exchanged for new models, Samsung has claimed. In other words, 40 percent of the dangerous devices are still in consumer hands, almost four weeks after Samsung issued a global recall on the Note 7. The new figures appear to show a slowdown in the number of successful exchanges in the United States.

The 2016 Great Debates
Part 1

Tonight, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton face the nation, and the world, in their first debate, locally in Long Island, billed as an epoch showdown which will set viewer records. Last minute prepping is underway - wardrobe, makeup, hair, attitude, hopefully learning from their mistake until today. Each candidate should be braced and ready as both love the limelight, Trump thriving on it.

We already know who they are, and what they are about, now want to hear their policies to better conditions in the country. Inexperienced Trump should not be winging it anymore (makes him look like an idiot) but should have some clear plans to help resolve the country's most crucial issues. Some can be fixed but many, such as climate change, have no solution. Hillary has good ideas but experience has taught her they may never happen.

We know the candidates lie, cheat, embellish, and will say anything to get elected - tonight being no exception. Such is the fate of American politics and most political systems across the world.

Will there be a clear winner? None of that matters as the next president is already determined in our orchestrated program. This is just theater. Frankly, after watching Kiefer Sutherland in "Designated Survivor", if he wasn't born in Canada he would have my vote. Reality is after all scripted.

If you are wondering why other qualified candidates have not stepped up, the obvious answer is they would not put themselves and their families through the process - but the real answer is they are not programmed to.

Consider what life will be like with Trump or Hillary actually as president. How long would their term last? What would be the consequences of their actions?

FYI - Stephen Colbert will be live after the debate.

Back Story fro the NY Times

Millions of Americans will be glued to their TVs tonight for the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The date carries significance, as well: Fifty-six years ago today in Chicago, Senator John F. Kennedy and Vice President Richard M. Nixon squared off in the first televised presidential debate. Weeks before, our television critic referred to the event as 'not an encouraging augury of the campaign to come.' Just like Clinton and Trump now, the two nominees in 1960 were in a tight race. Their debate became famous for its optics.

The Times suggested that both men were concerned with 'image projection' because of their courteous exchanges. The amount of smiling was registered, too - Kennedy rarely smiled, while Nixon did so more frequently. Some notable moments came when Kennedy talked about increasing the minimum wage (it was a dollar back then, according to the Labor Department), and when he defended himself against accusations that he lacked governing experience (he compared himself to Abraham Lincoln). Kennedy and Nixon went on to debate three more times. When Nixon ran for president in 1968 and for re-election in 1972, he did not go toe-to-toe on TV with his Democratic opponents.

Game on ...

The global fight for freedom continues, both at home and abroad. These are not just events but game changers. Change takes decades which no longer exist.

Tomorrow night, Trump and Hillary face the nation and the world in their first debate which will set viewer records. Debate prep school - one mistake can change everything. Bizarre campaign moment last week - Ted Cruz supporting Trump. I don't think the debate will determine who will become the next president but it will influence voters. People will be as interested in the dynamic between the candidates than what they say - hopefully about policy. Will Trump's inexperience and attitude show up? Will Hillary maintain her cool? Mark Cuban and Gennifer Flowers in the front row ... really? Is it all just entertainment - the final outcome not in voters hands? This is just a debate. I see other dramas before election day. Game on!

Game on ... Washington Redskins at New York Giants. New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs. Other NFL and Baseball games PGA Tour Golf Playoff: Tour Championship

On the fun side ... we celebrated my grandson Noah's 11th birthday at Red Bull Arena last night.

What is a Soul?

File updated September 24, 2016

A soul is generally perceived of as the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal. Throughout history great minds have pondered the role of soul, or consciousness, as something that may be unique to each of us, but in turn connects us all to a collective mind that creates and guides everything. In other words we are experiencing in an experiment - or as current thinking explains it - a consciousness hologram. Is the concept of a soul that guides us also of the illusion? If we are projected illusion, why would we need a soul - our DNA codes determining everything we experience without exception.

Does the Soul Exist?   Live Science - September 24, 2016

Many people today believe they possess a soul. While conceptions of the soul differ, many would describe it as an "invisible force that appears to animate us." It's often believed the soul can survive death and is intimately associated with a person's memories, passions and values.

Some argue the soul has no mass, takes no space and is localized nowhere. But as a neuroscientist and psychologist, I have no use for the soul. On the contrary, all functions attributable to this kind of soul can be explained by the workings of the brain. Psychology is the study of behavior.

To carry out their work of modifying behavior, such as in treating addiction, phobia, anxiety and depression, psychologists do not need to assume people have souls.

For the psychologists, it is not so much that souls do not exist, it is that there is no need for them. It is said psychology lost its soul in the 1930s. By this time, the discipline fully became a science, relying on experimentation and control rather than introspection.

What is the soul?

It is not only religious thinkers who have proposed that we possess a soul. Some of the most notable proponents have been philosophers, such as Plato (424-348 BCE) and Rene Descartes in the 17th century.

Plato believed we do not learn new things but recall things we knew before birth. For this to be so, he concluded, we must have a soul. Centuries later, Descartes wrote his thesis Passions of the Soul, where he argued there was a distinction between the mind, which he described as a "thinking substance," and the body, "the extended substance." He wrote:

... because we have no conception of the body as thinking in any way, we have reason to believe that every kind of thought which exists in us belongs to the soul.

One of the many arguments Descartes advanced for the existence of the soul was that the brain, which is a part of the body, is mortal and divisible - meaning it has different parts - and the soul is eternal and indivisible - meaning it is an inseparable whole. Therefore, he concluded they must be different things. But advances in neuroscience have shown these arguments to be false.

Stripping humans of the soul

In the 1960s, Nobel laureate Roger Sperry showed that the mind and our consciousness are divisible, therefore disproving that aspect of Descartes' theory. Sperry studied patients whose corpus callosum, the superhighway connecting the right and left hemispheres, had been severed by surgery aiming to control the spread of epileptic seizures. The surgery blocked or reduced the transfer of perceptual, sensory, motor and cognitive information between the two hemispheres. Sperry showed each hemisphere could be trained to perform a task, but this experience was not available to the untrained hemisphere. That is, each hemisphere could process information outside the awareness of the other. In essence, this meant the operation produced a double consciousness.

Thus, Descartes cannot be correct in his assertion the brain is divisible but the soul, which can be read as the mind or consciousness, is not. In his effort to prove the existence of the soul in humans, Descartes actually provided an argument against it.

Rather than investigating rats with souls, psychologists stripped humans of theirs. In 1949, psychologist D.O. Hebb claimed the mind is the integration of the activity of the brain.

Many neuro-philosophers have come to the same conclusion as the psychologists, with Patricia Churchland more recently claiming there is no ghost in the machine.

The brain does it all

If the soul is where emotion and motivation reside, where mental activity occurs, sensations are perceived, memories are stored, reasoning takes place and decisions are taken, then there is no need to hypothesize its existence. There is an organ that already performs these functions: the brain.

This idea goes back to the ancient physician Hippocrates (460-377 BCE) who said:

Men ought to know that from nothing else but the brain come joys, delights, laughter and sports, and sorrows, griefs, despondency and lamentations. And by this ... we acquire wisdom and knowledge, and see and hear, and know what are foul and what are fair, what are bad and what are good, what are sweet and what are unsavory ...

The brain is the organ with a map of our body, the outside world and our experience. Damage to the brain, as in accidents, dementias or congenital malformations, produces a commensurate damage to personality.

Consider one of the functions supposedly - if we listen to Plato - carried out by the soul: memory. A major knock on the head can make you lose your memories of the past several years. If the soul is an immaterial substance separate from our physical being, it should not be injured by the knock. If memory were stored in the soul, it should not have been lost.

The neuronal activity in the brain is responsible for the cognitive and emotional dysfunctions in people with autism; it would be cruel and unethical to blame their hypothetical souls.

Manipulation of the brain is sufficient to alter emotion and mood. The soul is totally superfluous to this process.

The ability of psychotherapeutic drugs to alter mood provides another line of evidence against the presence of the soul. If you produce a chemical imbalance in the brain, such as by depleting dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin with tetrabenazine, you can induce depression in some people.

Correspondingly, many depressed people can be helped by drugs that increase the function of these neurotransmitters in the brain.

The brain is where thinking takes place, love and hatred reside, sensations become perceptions, personality is formed, memories and beliefs are held, and where decisions are made. As D.K. Johnson said: "There is nothing left for the soul to do."

As to whether I am right or wrong about reality being a hologram - evidence is mounting to support the theory as programming is evolving the illusion. It's analogous to Schroedinger's Cat a thought experiment - is the cat alive or dead - real or imaginary - with teasers much like many of our TV shows.

The Fall 2016 TV season continues with new programming where I found some great new shows. I don't watch realities reality isn't real - like the hologram it is all staged for your entertainment and to keep you challenged and busy until the end. The Blacklist: Red is obviously Liz's father who will rescue her and baby Agnes then Tom -> the truth will out - Recap. I still watch the show on DVR to fast forward the violent scenes. Finding peace and balance in a bipolar (physical) reality will never happen.

Civil unrest is everywhere as the fight for freedom continues.

Finding Peace Within

There are many ways we seek peace and balance for body, mind and soul. Whatever works for you in the moment. I received an email from Michelle who I read Sunday. Thanks Michelle. Life is easier when you "Get it".

Dear Ellie,

Thank you so much for your time, wisdom, and guidance. You were there on one of my toughest days and supported me with such grace. I had that anxiety today, I went into it and worked through it back to love. I know there will be more to come and will keep healing every time.

Observing the hologram, learning to recognize it now more than ever, and how to balance the unconventional with the practical brings understanding.

"Stranger in My Genes"

Tuesday September 20, 2016

I am watching the Today show on NBC featuring a segment with Bill Griffeth, 60, an American financial journalist from CNBC, co-anchor of The Closing Bell". He is discussing his most recent book, Stranger in My Genes, exploring his decision to undergo DNA analysis which revealed that the father who raised him was not his biological father.

When his cousin Doug told him that his father was not his father, Bill's reaction resonated with me as an out of body - or out of grid experience. It's about "phasing out" of the illusion of time. It is what we experience when in shock and the final second when the hologram ends and reality FADES TO BLACK.

Quoting from his book, Bill said, "My body responded before my brain could. I experienced a strange sensation of floating and I could no longer feel the chair I was sitting in or the BlackBerry I was holding. My breathing became labored and shallow, and I heard a roaring in my ears like ocean waves crashing off in the distance. Time stopped as if a movie director had yelled, CUT!"

Bill is many years younger than his four siblings. Confronting his mother she immediately explained, "I made a personal mistake when I was younger that ended up being a blessing." This brought me to the thousands of clients I read through the years where a woman who outgrows her marriage, but is destined to remain, will take a lover and sometimes gets pregnant. Back in the day there were no abortions, so children were born and paternal identity hidden. Luckily today we have DNA tests for all of that. How the characters in this type of drama play out their roles, varies with their programmed DNA.

The discussion ended with the importance of DNA to track genetics and as you and I know ... we all play out our lives based on our genetic codes. Comparing medical issues was the first thing my long lost Crystal cousins, Doug, Mindy, Nancy, and I did when we met two years ago. I am considering the DNA test.

I laughed when I posted this blog as the clock read 11:11 which is code for DNA.

JonBenet Ramsey

About the murder of JonBenet Ramsey -I remember the case from 20 years ago but never was involved in solving the crime. As I watched the current series, and the behavior of her brother Burke on Dr. Phil - Burke has something wrong with him - maybe in the Aspergers or Autism families. He did it but it was an accident ... sort of... covered up by the parents. His mind may not remember the facts as they happened. She just wanted to be a little girl and nobody let her.

Peace

How amazing it would be if peace was to happen but that is far from reality. In Syria - the partial cease-fire was actually between the US and Russia to get food to starving people in Aleppo but that backfired as Assad's troops blocked the roads. Assad has become a central paradox of the war. He remains secure even as his country splinters and few experts see the war ending as long as he stays. They should take him out. Reality marches on ... to a final climax.
