Monday

The ongoing earthquakes in Italy are weakening the Eurasian plate. Sunday's quake was said to be the strongest to hit the country since 1980. Aftershocks will continue. This symbolizes to me the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. Then there's neighboring Greece (Greek Empire) and seismic Santorini (Atlantis myths). Is Atlantis rising? Atlantis is another grid/myth but it's not merging with our experience.

Politics - focus for the next 8 days and beyond will be on politics as surprises continue as Trump fights on. You know the sequence of the dramas making this the most unpredictable, dumbfounding and just plain nasty presidential campaign in modern times.

The World Series returns to Cleveland to wrap things up after Sunday night's Cubs victory. The home team takes the title.

NYC is alive with it's annual Halloween Parade which attracts about 2 million spectators. Floats, costumed characters and plenty of puppets will make their way up Sixth Avenue between Spring and 16th streets, causing traffic and closures from roughly 7 until 11 p.m. If you are trick or treating with children - have fun.

  Italy earthquake: 6.6-magnitude tremor rocks nation's center   CNN - October 30, 2016
A powerful 6.6-magnitude earthquake rocked central Italy on Sunday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey, sending residents running onto the streets in a panic. Rescuers were seen in the area around crumbling buildings soon after the tremor hit, helping evacuate a group of nuns from a building. They are working through aftershocks, striking every 20 minutes or so.

Italy quake: Powerful tremor near Norcia destroys buildings   BBC - October 30, 2016
A strong earthquake has struck near Norcia in central Italy, destroying numerous buildings. The quake comes nearly two months after a major earthquake killed almost 300 people and destroyed several towns. The quake early on Sunday measured 6.6, larger than August's quake and aftershocks last week. It is thought to be Italy's most violent in decades. At least nine people have been hurt but no deaths are reported so far. Many locals left after last week's quakes. Nine people have been pulled alive from the rubble, Italian media say. Tremors were felt in the capital Rome, and as far away as Venice in the north. It was at a depth of only 1.5km (0.9 miles).

2016 World Series Game 4

Indians one win away from first World Series championship since 1948   CNN - October 30, 2016
If the Chicago Cubs don't do something fast, their misery that's lasted more than a century will continue. Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis each hit home runs, and Corey Kluber stymied the Cubs for the second time in this World Series, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 7-2 win in Game 4 at Wrigley Field on Saturday night.

The latest Cubs curse? His name is Corey Kluber   ESPN - October 30, 2016
They're not just winning the World Series. They're not just puncturing dreams all over Chicago. The Cleveland Indians are winning this World Series behind an ace who feels as if he just dropped into this postseason out of a time machine. He's Corey Kluber. And at this point, we're not sure which October legend we should be comparing him to. To Christy Mathewson? To Jack Morris? To Orel Hershiser? What Kluber is doing, no one does anymore. Not in the 21st century. Give him the ball in Game 1. Give him the ball in Game 4. Give him the ball in Game 7 if you have to.

National Chocolate Day. Are you a Chocoholic?

NYC's Last Old-Fashioned Chocolate Shops   Eater - October 26, 2016
New York City currently harbors a profusion of chocolate shops, places where you can snag super-high-end chocolates made on the premises, middlin' national franchise chocolates, cheap supermarket chocolates at a discount, and imported French, Belgian, Swiss, Italian, and even Japanese chocolates. But an endangered species among chocolatiers are the ancient independent shops that once abounded in many neighborhoods. In the 1940s for example, along Avenue R in Brooklyn, seven shops produced hand-dipped chocolates; now only one remains.

2016 World Series
Journey to the Pennant

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

It all started when the Chicago Cubs won the championship Saturday night. Sunday, the Cleveland Indians became the American League champs. What made all of this so special? Here's the back story ...

The Cubs have not won the World Series in 108 years, and they had not won the National League pennant in 71 years until finally winning it in 2016, both of which are record "droughts" in Major League Baseball. Since the start of divisional play in 1969, the Cubs have appeared in the postseason eight times. This included five trips to the League Championship Series - in 1984, 1989, 2003, 2015, and 2016 which they won. The team's fans are eager to shed their 'lovable loser' moniker. Called the Curse of the Billy Goat - supposedly placed on the Cubs by a disgruntled fan - was finally lifted. The team's decades in the wilderness had become the stuff of legend. In the 1989 film Back to the Future II, a 2015 World Series win for the Chicago team was dubbed a "long shot".

To win the pennant, the Cubs must defeat the Cleveland Indians, who last won the World Series in 1948. That year's squad was notable for its roster featuring the first black players to be part of a major league championship, Satchel Paige and Larry Doby for those who remember or know their have baseball history.

Game 1 begins at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Here's the schedule

Decision 2016

Hillary turns 69 tomorrow (October 26, 2016) - I can hear the celebrations now. "Let them eat cake," she exclaimed. Hillary reminds me of how people feel about cats - you either love them, or you hate them. Interesting though - didn't Trump tell Billy Bush he likes pussy?

Trump will not go down without a fight and if he loses will continue on in media as he has a huge audience who believe in him. "Let there be revolution!" said the Don. It makes you wonder if there is a large part of the electorate who turn up on election day - and in this reality of unpredictability - Trump wins. His loose cannon behavior typifies reality. Huffington Post reported he is seeking investors for his media adventure. Rule #1 - never use your own money.

Two weeks to go ... November 8 ... Election Day.

By November 9, the votes will have been cast and counted, there will be a winner and a loser, and the country will begin a new chapter. Historians will have their say on the outcome, but all of us who have lived through this election will carry away indelible memories of a shocking year in American history: of a handful of ordinary people, swept up in the rush of history; of a series of moments on which the fate of the nation seemed, at least briefly, to turn; and of places on the map that became symbols of a divided nation.

Chicago Cubs: City parties as baseball 'curse' ends after 71 years   BBC - October 23, 2016
