Happy Memorial Day


Memorial Day


At last, the sun is shinning in the city. Current weather was more like Hurricane Sandy than Memorial Day - the unofficial start of summer - unexpected weather patterns now the norm. I missed watching Fleet Week this year, when the boats sail under the Verrazano Bridge and sailors stop by for readings. It's gone along with other things lost to Sequester, though I did read other clients in the military who are visiting here. Monday, the annual Memorial Day Parade, will pass by my house with the usual marching bands, political speakers, and fanfare.

From gentlemen's clubs to barbecue restaurants, city establishments lament the lack of sailors who would normally fill the streets over Memorial Day weekend, bringing big bucks (and admirers) with them.

Seven months after it was walloped by Hurricane Sandy, the New York Aquarium was finally back in business Saturday - welcoming families from across the five boroughs and beyond to a scaled back but resilient exhibition. Strollers jammed the halls of the reopened exhibition space and kids pressed their faces against the glass, pointing at the tropical fish and penguins.
