Friday

As far as the world observes our great democratic process is falling apart - nothing works - and in thinking this through no one can easily fix any of the issues.

Politics

The plots against Trump are mounting on all fronts including a letter with harmless white powder sent to his son Eric. When I heard about it on the news this morning, I kept thinking about the Mafia and all that craziness - not that I'm saying they are responsible - it's the same mentality. I'm quite sure Donald Trump wears s a bulletproof vest and he has said he carries a gun much of the time. Another report showed an increase in the number of students of all ages bringing guns into schools particularly here in New York City. Revolution always has collateral damage, as does war and anything else that brings major changes in the hologram. The establishment has their own political agendas which you know. TV shows like Scandal, among others, mimic their behavior - the patterns never changing since the beginning. It's what people are trying to tear down even, if it means electing Donald Trump and giving him an opportunity to try to fix things. What a mess!

A King in His Castle: How Donald Trump Lives, From His Longtime Butler   New York Times - March 18, 2016
Everything seemed to sparkle at the Mar-a-Lago estate here on a recent afternoon. The sun glinted off the pool and the black Secret Service S.U.V.s in the circular driveway. Palm trees rustled in a warm breeze, croquet balls clicked and a security guard stood at the entrance to Donald J. Trump's private living quarters.

Judicial

The battle to select the next Supreme Court judge will rage on through this year and into the next. Yesterday I watched members of Congress - both Republican and Democrat - discuss their views and it's all ridiculous to me. As far as I know, Obama has the right to select the next candidate. Voters should decide - not Congress. Senators head home today for yet another two-week recess, where they will face voters' questions about their positions on the nomination, which Republicans are refusing to consider. It's already an issue in November's Senate contests.

Obama on the campaign

President Obama has told Democratic donors that the party must soon unite behind Hillary Clinton. But one troubling trend for Democrats is that white men are not backing her candidacy in force in major battleground states. Bernie Sanders could fare better in the second half of the primary season than in the first, and he can still win the nomination. He campaigns today in Idaho and Utah, while Mrs. Clinton attends fund-raisers in Connecticut and Virginia.

The Fallas Festival - March 19-20, 2016

Las Fallas is a Valencian ancient festival and tradition where fire, art and satire are the protagonists. For a few days every Spring (March 15-19), Valencia gets flooded with flowers and music, joy and color. Papier-mache-and-wood effigies of famous figures go up in flames on Saturday night. The festival is held in honor of St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. It dates to the Middle Ages, when the city's carpenters lit bonfires in honor of the saint and to welcome spring. Later, effigies of people who had become notorious during the year were added to the inferno. Residents build giant wooden structures, or fallas, during the year in every neighborhood. Hundreds , some as tall as 45 feet, depict cultural and historical scenes adorned with puppets that often lampoon celebrities or politicians. (In the past they've included Presidents Obama and George W. Bush.) A vote determines the best fallas, which are spared from destruction and installed at a museum. The entire city can seem transformed into a spectacular carnival, with parades crisscrossing the city, residents in costume and daily bullfights and concerts. At midnight, the effigies, embedded with fireworks, are set alight and explode in color. The fallas in the city center, which are the biggest and carry the most fireworks, are set off last.

The Fallas Festival is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of Saint Joseph in the city of Valencia, in Spain. The term Fallas refers to both the celebration and the monuments burnt during the celebration. A number of towns in the Valencian Community have similar celebrations inspired by the original Fallas de Valencia celebration. Each neighborhood of the city has an organized group of people, the Casal faller, that works all year long holding fundraising parties and dinners, usually featuring the famous dish, paella, a specialty of the region. Each casal faller produces a construction known as a falla which is eventually burnt. A casal faller is also known as a comissio fallera.
