Arms aloft and waving his finger, Michael Phelps left nobody in doubt just who was No. 1 Tuesday. The world's most successful Olympian took his remarkable record to 21 gold medals on a stunning night for the United States in the pool.
Some of you may recall that I dislike being called - dear, honey, darling, sweetie, etc. From my point of view, or maybe my age group, these alleged terms of endearment come across as derogatory. I liked to be called Ellie or nothing at all. My only exception would be talking to a baby or young child.

Goodbye to 'Honeys' in Court, by Vote of American Bar Association New York Times - August 10, 2016
It is official. The American Bar Association says it is professional misconduct to discriminate against or harass opposing counsel, or anyone else for that matter, in the course of practicing law. The ethics rule now forbids comments or actions that single out someone on the basis of race, religion, sex, disability and other factors. Nearly two dozen state bars and the District of Columbia bar have similar rules. But there has been no national prohibition of such behavior, which, many female lawyers complain, results in too many "honeys," "darlings" and other sexist remarks and gestures toward them while they are trying to practice their profession.
My friend Anna, in the next building, took these pics last night of a fire on the Verrazano Bridge. I can't find a story in the news about it, but traffic today seems to be moving along. It must have been a vehicle fire. Lots of heat and humidity ... and ongoing construction on the upper level making traffic overly congested.
The days grow worse for Donald Trump as most of us hope something gets done to change the Republican candidate. It's as if he wants to self destruct. Could this all be a diversion to get Hillary elected? I believe so. Remember that their daughters remain close through all the chaos which seems weird.
