NZ's Auckland first world city to welcome in 2017 BBC - December 31, 2016
Auckland in New Zealand has become the first major world city to welcome 2017. Fireworks erupted from the 328m (1,080ft) tall Sky Tower in the city centre. Polynesia and Pacific islands including Samoa, Tonga and Kiribati entered 2017 at 10:00 GMT. Many cities around the world have stepped up security for New Year's Eve celebrations, after a year in which attackers drove lorries into crowds in Berlin and Nice. In Paris, Madrid and New York, concrete barriers and heavy goods vehicles will be used to block off central squares where crowds gather to celebrate.
Wednesday December 28, 2016 ... Joel is my son-in-law Jon's father who turned 73 today as the family celebrated. Two years ago on this date, Joel lost his daughter, Paige, to cancer on her 40th birthday. One year before that, he lost his wife, Sheila. On this day, Sheila and Paige came to me with messages for Joel. Was the message on the TV screen also from Sheila and Paige? Actually, life is very much scripted as you know, and sometimes you accidentally capture a message from a deceased loved one who brings hope.
Carrie Fisher's death came as no surprise to me for two reasons. After her heart attack on the plane, one of the departing passengers told the news that she wasn't breathing for about 10 minutes. Second - again we address mental illness and substance abuse. Life is a struggle and eventually the body and soul expire taking away the pain. Good-bye Princess Leia. Your journeys were never easy.
I'm fine, but I'm bipolar. I'm on seven medications, and I take medication three times a day. This constantly puts me in touch with my illness. I'm never quite allowed to be free of that for a day.
Three large quakes hit near Nevada-California state line LA Times - December 28, 2016
The first temblor occurred at 12:22 a.m. Pacific time with a magnitude of 5.7 near Hawthorne, Nevada. At least seven quakes with magnitudes between 3-5.6 were reported shortly after.

Another talented musician has passed away at a young age. As with many talented musicians George Michael dealt with substance abuse and sexual orientation issues. At the age of 19, he told Andrew Ridgeley and close friends that he was bisexual. In a 1999 interview with The Advocate, Michael said that it was falling in love with a man that ended his conflict over bisexuality. "I never had a moral problem with being gay. I thought I had fallen in love with a woman a couple of times. Then I fell in love with a man, and realized that none of those things had been love. I used to sleep with women quite a lot in the Wham! days but never felt it could develop into a relationship because I knew that, emotionally, I was a gay man. I didn't want to commit to them but I was attracted to them. Then I became ashamed that I might be using them. My depression at the end of Wham! was because I was beginning to realize I was gay, not bisexual."
Christmas in Pittsburg
My daughter Zsia, her husband, Jon, and they sons Michal, 18 and Dylan, 16, have always been Pittsburgh Steelers fans. This year they decided to spend Christmas at a playoff game. They left early Sunday morning for the 4:30 game driving five hours to get there. Of course I watched the game - the most exciting part at the end as the Steelers beat the Ravens - Steelers win North, clinch No. 3 seed in an exciting finish. The weather was as good as it gets in late December - clear with temps in the 40's. This morning Zsia emailed this pic of Jon (black jacket) and Michael next to him bending over to touch the hand of one of the players. This picture comes from the Steelers Twitter feed. Zsia has more pictures to send later. What a game.

7.7 Chile earthquake triggers tsunami warning BBC - December 25, 2016
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.7 off the coast of Chile has prompted a tsunami warning.
The quake struck 225km (140 miles) south-west of Puerto Montt in southern Chile at 14:22 GMT, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. Its depth was about 15km (10 miles). There are no details yet of damage. Chile's national emergency office has issued an alert and ordered the evacuation of coastal areas of Los Lagos region.

Magi
The Magi, The Star of Bethlehem, Star of David or Merkabah, the Jesus Myth, Religions, Aliens, all connected to Z (time). ... A Magus was a Zoroastrian astrologer-priest from ancient Persia. The best known Magi are the "Wise Men from the East" in the Bible. In English, the term may refer to a shaman, sorcerer, or wizard; it is the origin of the English words magic and magician. Magi further connect with Ancient Alien Theory meaning if you don't believe in mythological gods - how about alien creators in this timeline to help you make sense of things? No? Then how about a consciousness hologram in which you are vicariously experiencing that you figure out in the end as it Fades to Black?
