Not that snow was predicted in Brooklyn, but this morning was the first times since last winter that I moved my shade just enough to peek out and see if there was snow on the ground. Nothing. I hope you are safe and braced for winter.


Earth is now fully inside a stream of solar wind flowing from a large coronal hole on the sun. The buffeting action of the stream is causing intermittent auroras around the Arctic Circle - some of them quite bright. John Glenn was a US Senator from Ohio (December 24, 1974 - January 3, 1999). In 1976 he was a candidate for the Democratic vice presidential nomination. However, Glenn's keynote address at the Democratic National Convention failed to impress the delegates and the nomination went to Walter Mondale. Glenn also ran for the 1984 Democratic presidential nomination.
