Weathering the Storm

Last night, the TV series "Madame Secretary" addressed many of the issues we face today ... from frigid temperatures resulting in broken water pipes and how that can destroy your home ... to a runaway president whose behavior questions his mental stability. It turned out that POTUS had a benign brain tumor causing his erratic behavior. It also gave us a glimpse into how branches of the government can immediately address impeachment when a president goes rogue. Sound familiar? As art imitates life, or the other was around, the episode was called Sound and Fury airing shortly after Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury" went on sale

Allegedly, Trump has no serious medical issues but we still question his ability to lead the country due to emotional problems. To daily follow and cover-up, Trump's actions must be quite the chore at the White House, especially Republicans who are trying to hold the party together. Trump's medical report, as presented to the public, seems to have been signed improperly (doctored would be a better word), which brings into question once again what's really going on behind the scenes and how sound is Trump to be in charge?

Sunday night, one of the main characters on "Madame Secretary" said, "We have the best system of government the world has ever seen, but it's only as good as the people in charge." Again and again, the show indirectly brought to mind Trump's shortcomings and how dangerous a person he really is.

On the matter of below freezing temperatures and broken water pipes ... Before I watched Madame Secretary, my friend Linda called from Florida where she is spending the winter with another friend. Neither woman knew that one should leave a little bit of water trickling so the pipes don't burst in the cold. Sadly, her friend's house was destroyed last week when water pipes burst and no one was home to resolve the problem immediately by turning off the water main. Another friend, who was checking on her home discovered the flooded basement and more. Her children ran to the rescue but it was too late ... a lifetime of personal possessions destroyed. Everything is changing and we have to be especially prepared for climate changes in ways we never considered. This takes us to the wildfires and mudslides in Montecito, California as well as destruction in areas everywhere. Last week, there were two earthquakes over 7.0 in the Caribbean and Peru and hits is just the beginning. Adjustment is not just about staying cool in hot weather and warm in the winter. It's about understanding what changing climate will bring and how much longer planet earth will be sustainable. Things become more visibly broken every day.
