An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling "Frankenstorm" is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week, focusing the worst of its weather mayhem around New York City and New Jersey. Government forecasters on Thursday upped the odds of a major weather mess, now saying there's a 90 percent chance that the East will get steady gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding and maybe snow starting Sunday and stretching past Halloween on Wednesday.

One person has died and buildings were damaged after a powerful, 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit southern Italy in the middle of the night on Friday. The quake struck the province of Cosenza in the southern region of Calabria in Italy at 3.15am (0115 GMT).
Wednesday, when I was reading Clara from Italy, I suddenly felt the room shake and grabbed the arms of my chair.
"Did you feel that?" I asked.
"Feel what?" Clara replied.
"The Earthquake!"
Clara felt nothing - yet it was so real to me. Maybe I felt the earthquake in Italy on Friday.
