The Successful Guru

"Guru" is a Sanskrit term for "teacher" or "master", especially in Indian religions. The Hindu guru-shishya tradition is the oral tradition or religious doctrine or experiential wisdom transmitted from teacher to student. In the United States, the word guru is a newer term, most often used to describe a teacher from the Hindu tradition. In the west, some derogatory interpretations of the word have been noted, reflecting certain gurus who have allegedly exploited their followers' naivete, due to the use of the term in new religious movements.

I've never liked the energy of the word "Guru". In recent years, I've met several internationally known and respected Indian Gurus all of whom are gentle men who also do not like the title Guru with its current energy. "Guru" is too god-like and we are not programmed for a god-on-Earth - but more about an anthropomorphic entity who guides us and will lead us to salvation - or whatever people believe.

Who is a successful Guru? The answer is the person who has managed to keep his/her life in balance - lucky enough to have been programmed for good health and happiness, sometimes giving advice to others, but respecting their boundaries. Their energy is up and positive as people gravitate to them. This is not about someone who touches you, hugs you, or tells you that you can do something that you know when your heart is impossible to achieve. It is someone you attract into your life at a given moments in time who makes you aware of your personal truths.

Many people who read Crystalinks follow the adventures and teachings of Wayne Dyer. They have attended his lectures, read his books, all of which have brought healing and perspective to their lives. Yet ... with all of the self-help gurus, it never ceases to amaze me how they always find a way to put a new slant on recycled systems and make a lot of money doing it. I've never heard Wayne Dyers speak, but he seems well-intended. He's been lucky and successful because of the timing of his life in this hologram.

Today, those who want to achieve Wayne Dyer's level of recognition and success, find the market saturated with others who want to share their stories and become wealthy along the way. Some of the leading self-help gurus are sponsored by Hay House, which, like anything else, has its own shares of dramas and unethical practices as told to me by Sylvia Browne and others. And so, in a not-too-perfect world, we play out our dramas until it's over ... the guru in each of us guided to help ... but not at our own personal expense and freedom.

Wayne Dyer Quotes 2

"My beliefs are that the truth is a truth until you organize it, and then becomes a lie. I don't think that Jesus was teaching Christianity, Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don't be Christian, be Christ-like. Don't be Buddhist, be Buddha-like. Religion is orthodoxy, rules and historical scriptures maintained by people over long periods of time. Generally people are raised to obey the customs and practices of that religion without question. These are customs and expectations from outside the person and do not fit my definition of spiritual."
