The defending U.S. Open champion, Jordan Spieth, struggled to regain lost ground in a tournament thrown out of order by early rain delays. In soccer, the U.S. team made it to the semifinals of the Copa America. Olympic officials backed a doping-related ban on Russian track and field athletes competing in the Rio Games.
